Alternate uses for dog gear

Cassie in her Thundershirt and a bootie for her sore paw

This past week has been bitterly cold here in the Chicago area. My dogs were dressed in both a sweater and a coat just to walk around the block. Unfortunately Cassie’s arthritic elbows pained her to get into the sleeves of her sweater. I searched the internet for a sweater wrap to cover her up, when an image of a Thundershirt popped up (http://www.thundershirt.com/Product/Thundershirt.aspx?item_guid=ad60b946-f758-45e2-a589-331dda09637e ). I had one buried in a drawer. Sure enough, it was a great sweater. It wraps around her neck and belly, so no painful manipulations of shoving her paws through the sleeves. It kept Cassie nice and toasty, especially underneath her coat.

Cassie also developed a sore spot on the edge of her paw. To protect it from the cold and snow, I used a fleece bootie to protect it. Of course I needed several booties to change it every time it got wet, which was every time she went outside.

Have any of you tried any creative uses for dog gear?
