Does your dog prefer being outdoors, even when the weather is cold, or rainy, or even snowing? Do you have to insist that he come inside, and then watch him stand by the door, anxious to go out again?
Your dog may not even be an outside breed, like a husky, but a cocker spaniel that is waiting for her person to return, or a springer that prefers the cold weather and watching the yard to staying inside.
If you have a dog like this, you know exactly what I’m talking about. They hate to be inside, especially when their owner is out.
I have tried putting coats on my dogs, left the garage open, and even opened my car door to give my dog options to get out of the wind. Sometimes this worked, but it depended on the dog.
Buffy, my blind cocker spaniel, insists on sitting by the gate while she waits for me to come home. She won’t go in the garage.
On a cool, drizzly evening, I arrived home to find Buffy sitting in something I had bought years ago, when I owned three dogs and took them camping. I forgot all about it until my husband brought it outside and placed it by the gate—the dog tent. He even put a pad in it to make it cozy for Buffy. He’s such a nice dog dad (actually, he’s Buffy’s brother-in-law since Buffy was my mom’s dog before she died, so she’s sort of my sister).
Perfect. It blocked the wind, kept her dry, and even my blind dog could find her way into it.
It’s not just for camping. Try it for your dog who just wants to stay outside as long as possible. It sets up in seconds. I got the Dog Haus from ABO Gear.
This tent was great for camping with multiple dogs. Back then, I used a wire enclosure in the campground instead of tripping on three tangled leashes. Here’s my review of it when I first purchased the tent.
Do you have a dog that insists on being outside in crummy weather? What do you do?
This review is my own opinion and not solicited by the company.
Your husband is a great guy. Buffy can be happy outside in her cosy tent! I have cats who won’t come in but this is mostly a summer/autumn thing and in winter they huddle inside. It must drive dog owners nuts so your idea is perfect.
I can see them now “Dogs * shaking heads * Crazy eh?’
My husband says he isn’t a dog person, but he goes out of his way to make my dog cozy!
Such a great idea to use the tent where Buffy could wait for you and stay dry.
Cookie would certainly stay outside all day given a choice. Luckily, she is also big on routines so if they include hanging in the house periodically, she’s down with that.
Looks like a great piece of gear whether for camping out or sheltering an outside-obsessed critter like Buffy. She’s a lucky girl.
Layla is quite happy to come home from the park, she is not a real outdoorsy dog as such but I think it triggers things in her as before I rescued her they kept her outdoors all the time. When we do go out though for the day I always take a canopy with me to give her shade plus a feeling of security as such.
Good idea for shade protection. Where I’m at it’s pretty rare to not find some trees for shade.
I have small breed dogs, and I don’t really allow them to stay outside alone. I’m too paranoid! When we lived in the city I was nervous that someone would steal them. Now that we live in a more rural area, I’m worried about all the wildlife getting to them. We have things like bobcats, coyotes, and bears. Luckily they don’t really ever want to stay outside by themselves anyways. They like being out when I’m out with them, but otherwise are spoiled and prefer the comforts of the house.
