Does your dog look at you, pleading for help as he contemplates jumping onto the couch or bed? Does he hesitate to jump down?
Chipper left me a big surprise today when he laid several bright green poops. Although this could be a sign of intestinal problems, or eating too much green material, such as grass
What the ….” I stopped my bicycle in the middle of the forest preserve trail as my three-year-old springer spaniel tried to run alongside. She pumped her back legs hard, but moved in slow motion, her back end not able to keep up with her front legs.
After having dogs for my entire life, of over fifty years, I’ve noticed a weird trend. Most of my dogs have become ill from October through December. Here’s the list:
I jinxed myself with the post about skunks. A few nights ago, Chipper got skunked. I had been lucky for decades. I think the skunk was outside our fence, since he didn’t get sprayed too badly, but it did hit his face. Then he ran up to Buffy and rubbed his face on her back. What a mess!
One day in the middle of May, Buffy refused to get out of bed and go for a walk. The night before she had been slow on our evening walk, not acting like her normal bouncy self, but I figured that she just ate something that didn’t agree with her and would recover quickly.
The vet sampled her swollen neck glands and warned me of the possibility of lymphatic cancer.
I’ve been extremely fortunate to not have had any of my dogs sprayed by a skunk in the over fifty years that I have had dogs (knock on wood). Several of my dogs have met a skunk while walking loose in the woods or camping and amazingly they listened when I called them to me!
I love water dogs, the one’s that can’t stay out of the water. I’ve had several and have learned that there are swimmers, waders, and one’s that can’t stand to even get their paws wet.
Summer is still here and by now you have found out if you have a fraidy dog. You know what I mean. The dogs that shake, whine, paw at you, and make you feel their misery over thunderstorms, fireworks, and loud noises in general – except for their barking.
